Emory Voice Center Laryngeal Imaging and FEES Hands-On Workshop

Course Overview

The Emory Voice Center Laryngeal Imaging and FEES Hands-On Workshop has provided exceptional training in laryngopharyngeal endoscopy since 2004. The course is open to both speech-language pathologists and physicians.

In addition to over five hours of direct, hands-on practice with a variety of endoscopic methods, this course provides focused instruction in FEES and stroboscopic interpretation as well as insight into clinical decision-making and documentation and billing procedures.

Participants will learn techniques to optimize their skills in rigid and flexible endoscopy and flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES), and appropriate strategies for endoscope management, universal precautions, and the use of topical anesthetic.

Tuition includes a course syllabus, breakfasts, lunches, and other amenities involved in creating a rewarding learning experience. This course has a maximum capacity for registration, so it is advised to register early.

  2. Participants will demonstrate endoscope management, universal precautions, and safe use of topical anesthetic.

  3. Participants will develop basic endoscopic techniques for laryngeal stroboscopy and FEES.

  4. Participants will develop an introductory to intermediate level skill of interpreting laryngeal imaging examinations and FEES.

Hands-On Training

Providers of all skill and experience levels are invited to register. Training is performed with provided volunteers to replicate real world clinical encounters in a low-pressure setting. Special introductory mini-sessions designed for those with little or no experience are offered at the beginning of the hands-on sessions. To maximize learning and exposure, training is completed in small group sessions in which individual guidance is provided to each attendee.
