RESEARCH FOCUS

Dr. El-Deiry's primary research focus involves the effect of head and neck cancer treatment on patients' quality of life. He initially examined health related outcomes between patients treated with surgery and radiation versus patients treated with chemotherapy and radiation as measured by the University of Iowa Head and Neck Cancer Inventory (HNCI). This study was followed by an investigation of the predictors of quality of life post treatment using the University of Washington Quality of Life Inventory (UWQOL). The goal of Dr. El-Deiry's current research is to establish relationships between tumor biology and downstream quality of life measurements in addition to continued analysis of treatment methods and quality of life outcomes.
